Meet Earth’s Sexiest Superheroes – Part 1: Z-Bot

Xi Force Poster.jpg

It’s been quite a year (well, year and a month) for my new Xi Force series. The first book, Z-Bot premiered on Dec. 6th of 2017. The story was inspired by a picture I picked up on a stock photo site:

Zombiebot.jpgIt spoke to me in ways I hadn’t experienced before. I needed to know who this person was. I needed to figure out his story. And thus, Chris Johnson, Z-Bot, was born.

I was really excited that my cover artist could use the inspirational picture on the cover of the book because this was Chris.

Now, I have a history of killing off the heroes (and occasionally my heroines as well) in my stores. In science fiction and fantasy death doesn’t have to be so final. But with this book I toyed with the idea of killing off my hero in the first chapter.  I ended up killing him off in the first sentence of the book.

Beep. Beep. Beeeeeee . . .

Yup, that’s Chris’s final heartbeat, at least for a while.

You see, Chris becomes a zombiebot. Something half robot, something raised from the dead. A Frankenstein-like project spearheaded by brainy love-interest, Dr. Heather Logan.

And this paves the way for Chris to become the Earth’s (at least my Earth’s) first superhero, and the first member of a new superhero team:

Xi Force

Z-Bot went on to win the Kathryn Hayes “When Sparks Fly” contest. The book also was a finalist for the 2018 PRISM Award, the 2018 National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award (NERFA), and the 2018 Toronto Northern Hearts Contest.

Not bad for a poor little cyborg from Megopolis.

Part human, part wolf, he walks on the Wylde side.

Blurb: Forced to undergo experimental procedures that grafted wolf DNA into his own and then given super healing powers, Jonathan Wylde wants nothing to do with civilization, preferring instead to run with his wolf pack. A reluctant member of the Xi Force super team, he keeps to himself unless is talents are needed.

Dove Locklear returns home after spending exciting and adventurous weeks with the Xi Force super team, and reconnecting with her childhood friend, John Wylde. But danger lurks in her father’s genetics lab. An agent of Red Guard, with nefarious plans, whisks her away at gunpoint to a secret Russian facility.

When his closest friend, Dove Locklear, is kidnapped, Wylde needs to learn to work with his team if he wants to save her. He knows where they took her, and the danger she’s in. He’ll do whatever it takes to rescue to her, even if that means confronting the man who created him—his father.

Whether you’re joining me from Brenda Margriet’s blog post or starting your blog hop here, welcome.

This week’s topic comes from the delightful Jenna Da Sie – April 1st has just passed. Do you play or have you played an April Fool’s joke?

The short answer is: This year? No. Ever? Probably, though I can’t remember one.

I’m not a big fan of the “holiday.” I’ve always been a big fan of laughing with people and not at them. April Fools Day jokes seem to have escalated into pranks, and giving human nature, which seems to take everything to the extreme, I have to wonder how many people get hurt, physically and emotionally, on April 1st by someone whose excuse is “It was just a joke.”

I can do without a day to celebrate and encourage that.

I don’t usually take such a serious tone here on my blog, but this one resonated with me.
