A Hair-Raising Adventure

Image, image, image. What does an old, gray-haired, overweight guy do to up his game? As an author, I spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen that really doesn’t care what I look like (thank goodness).

But I’ve recently taken part in some public appearances. Books signings, panel discussions, author events. At last year’s PRISM awards I gave a speech that was streamed over the internet. And this coming July I will be on a panel discussion at the national convention of the Romance Writers of America in New York City. As I attempt to up my game as an author, I find myself continually looking at the image I present.

Now when it comes to my hair, I am usually a Cost Cutters kind of guy. Whoever, whatever, it’s too long so cut some off. I’ve never really considered my “look.”

Obviously.

This week I decided to get some professional help.

Hair by Horlando.jpg

Enter Horlando, my wife’s hairdresser, and an incredibly creative guy. After an initial consultation, I put myself and my hair in his very capable hands.

Now, to be very clear, this is what he had to work with:

But Horlando was great, offering up a new look that’s fashionable and easy to care for. That last part is important for me. We even added a touch of teal coloring to augment the gray in my hair, beard, and mustache.

And two days later, after a wash, and doing it all myself, here’s the end result:

So, what do you think? Let me know in the comments down below.

Adventure on.
